Member Profile

Salamander, a knowledge based company spun out from the University of Manchester, are experts in commercialising new technologies with a strong focus on environmental monitoring products. Envirolink Northwest invited Salamander, as part of a group of Northwest companies, to help launch our first Water and Wastewater Supply Chain Directory at a trade show in 2005.

Salamander used the opportunity to launch a new product, the Hydraclam used for monitoring water quality within the supply network. Hydraclam accesses the water main via the hydrant point to continuously monitor key water quality parameters: turbidity, electrical conductivity, pressure and temperature, with deployment up to one year for long term extensive network monitoring. Collection of water quality data, through the use of Hydraclam, enables water companies to better identify and proactively manage discolouration, within their networks, as well as prioritising works and maintenance strategies.

Salamander’s technical director Nathan Boyd commented: “Envirolink’s support in terms of marketing and exhibition space really helped in allowing us to meet new potential customers, primarily from water utilities. As a small company it can be difficult to justify the costs of exhibiting alone but through Envirolink we received free space as well as being asked to deliver a specific technology briefing to conference delegates.”

Since the show Salamander has worked with Envirolink and UK Trade and Investment to explore opportunities in overseas markets for a range of innovative environmental monitoring products.
