Polypropylene recovery from post consumer carpets
In the UK, up to 500,000 tonnes per annum of post consumer carpets are sent to landfill. Currently, there are very few recycling processes in existence to handle this waste stream. One option is to size reduce synthetic post consumer carpets for use in equestrian surface applications. However, this is a relatively low value application and it should be possible to gain a higher value material from recovered post consumer carpets.
